Trick or treat with Bacon Dipped Caramel Apples
In honour of Halloween I was inspired to add some pork to this candy-coated ghoulish celebration. I love caramel apples, apples go well in the mouth of a roasted pig; therefore, why not mix the salty and the sweet with a classic Halloween treat.
Bacon Dipped Caramel Apples
1 lb bacon
5 apples washed and well dried
1 pkg (340) caramels (unwrapped)
2 tbsp water
5 wooden popsicle sticks or chopsticks
- Bake one pound of bacon on a cookie sheet at 350 degrees until crispy. Remove and let dry on paper towel. When cooled break into small pieces or bits.
- Cook caramels and water in a saucepan on low heat. Stir constantly until caramels are completely melted and has a smooth/thin consistency
- Insert wooden into end of each apple. Dip apples in caramel, using spoonfuls of carmel to help cover and coat apples. Let excess caramel drip off.
- Quickly roll caramel apple in bacon bits and let cool on sheet of parchment paper.
