Trick or treat with Bacon Dipped Caramel Apples

Sharman - Tuesday, October 30, 2012

In honour of Halloween I was inspired to add some pork to this candy-coated ghoulish celebration. I love caramel apples, apples go well in the mouth of a roasted pig; therefore, why not mix the salty and the sweet with a classic Halloween treat.

Rolling in bacon bits

Bacon Dipped Caramel Apples

1 lb bacon
5 apples washed and well dried
1 pkg (340) caramels (unwrapped)
2 tbsp water
5 wooden popsicle sticks or chopsticks
parchment paper

  1. Bake one pound of bacon on a cookie sheet at 350 degrees until crispy. Remove and let dry on paper towel. When cooled break into small pieces or bits.
  2. Cook caramels and water in a saucepan on low heat. Stir constantly until caramels are completely melted and has a smooth/thin consistency
  3. Insert wooden into end of each apple. Dip apples in caramel, using spoonfuls of carmel to help cover and coat apples. Let excess caramel drip off.
  4. Quickly roll caramel apple in bacon bits and let cool on sheet of parchment paper.
  5. Enjoy!
