What’s on the Grill at Abbotsford’s BeerBBQ
July 16th is your chance to see the hops blooming on the vine, tour the hop farm, and celebrate two great pairings, Beer and BBQ, and we’ve got the inside scoop of the local pork being thrown on that grill. Held at BC Hop Co’s Kinloch Farm on 1905 Cole Road, Abbotsford, BC, this event pairs Pit Masters and BBQ with BC’s Craft Beer.
Brian from Misko from House of Q has two pork dishes that will be on the roster. The first will be the award winning championship-style pulled pork, served with chili-spiced, smoked saltine cracker and a tangy BBQ sauce. Howe Sound Brewing has paired their newly released Kalamansi Citrus Blonde Ale with this delectable delight and the combination of crunch, smoke, spice, sweetness, juiciness and a touch of tangy will keep eaters wanting more.
The second dish is bacon-wrapped, Bratwurst sausages that will be seasoned with House of Q House Rub, smoked and then glazed with our classic Rock’n Red BBQ Sauce; a Nut Brown Ale will be served alongside to add another layer of goodness to this dish.
John from Hogshack Cookhouse will be doing pulled pork just like they do at their Steveston restaurant as well as a south Asian style pork sausage made with garlic, fish sauce, cilantro, onions and spices.
Tyle at Duft & Co. Bake House is brining and smoking a Pork Roast with Wholegrain Mustard Vinaigrette, to be paired with the Sour Wheat Ale and Hand Made Sausages Served with Sweet n’ Spicy BBQ Sauce, alongside a Dutch Pale Ale (image from Beer Me BC)
Jeremy and Jules run PigBBQ.ca, a one stop shop for do-it-yourself pig roasts. They supply a hook you up with a roaster or smoker, local BC pig, and the know-how to tackle a pig roast and be successful even if you’ve never done it before. On site they’ll have a whole pig on the BBQ.
The event has local beef and chicken tow and each Pit Masters is paired with a Local Craft Brewing team to present 2 unique BBQ & beer pairings. You’re the judging panel – casting your vote for – Best BBQ – Best Beer – and Best BBQ/Beer Pairing. There will also be professional judging for various Best BBQ categories.
