Sloppy Hoggs Roed Hus – A BBQ pork lovers paradise
It was hard not to notice that pulled pork was on everyone’s menu this summer, and thankfully in Edmonton, the invasion of southern comfort is still going strong.
Situated on 118th ave near NAIT, Sloppy Hoggs Roed Hus is a new neighbourhood gem that is serving up some serious BBQ pork.
I called in my friend Stephen to help me check out Sloppy Hoggs on a Sunday afternoon. I’m pretty sure we should have run a marathon first, because this place is dishing out some hefty portions. I recommend checking this establishment out when you have quite the appetite or you like taking home leftovers.
As to be expected, the menu is meat heavy. We decided to split a few dishes, and decided on the Full slab of Sloppy Hogg Ribs ($24) which came with three house-made sauces – Mixed Berry BBQ, Sloppy Hogg BBQ & Mustard BBQ. Each flavour was equally delicious, and I was double dipping between each bowl of sticky goodness. (Please note – all sauces are available for takeaway – can you think of a better x-mas present for a pork lover?)
The people at the table next to us ordered one of the house specialties – the Roed Hus Road Kill ($18). The house baked waffle bun, topped with mustard BBQ
sauce, 8 oz of smoked beef brisket, 2 pieces of bacon, 2 pieces of smoked cheddar, lettuce, tomato, pickles, 8 oz smoked pork butt, hogg sauce, onion rings, waffle sauce, 4 oz smoked chicken, berry bbq sauce, and served with beans and fries.
I think it is too much food for one person to consume … but it looks pretty cool on the plate.
We also ordered a gluten free pulled pork sandwich (which I proceeded to dip in the trio of sauces from the ribs). I thought it was mighty tasty, and appreciated the gluten free opportunity to try this hearty sandwich.

Give me the hogg slop – crispy fries topped with pulled pork, gravy, smoke house aged cheddar, finished with diced onions, bacon crumble and waffle sauce ($7.50)
