Pork on the menu at Taste Alberta/124st Grand Market Farm to Fork Tour
Last July over 120 participants from around the province joined Taste Alberta on a farm-to-fork tour in central Alberta. This year Taste Alberta is teaming up with Edmonton’s 124 street Grand Market for a culinary adventure around Bon Accord.
On Sunday July 13th, participants will take a self-guided food tour, from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., about 30 minutes north of Edmonton through the beautiful prairies, stopping along the way at designated farms, ranches and food producing facilities.
This tour is a great opportunity to learn more about local producers and farmers. If you already visit the farmers market, this is a unique chance to see where your food is coming from by touring farms like Sparrows Nest Organics and Meadow Creek Farms and meeting Alberta producers Cajun Angus and Kampjes Dairy Farm.
The tour will end with a late lunch prepared with fresh, local ingredients from the participating producers by chef Chris Tom-kee and chef Mike Scorgie, executive chef of Wood Work.
Alberta Pork has donated the cost of a local pig to the event, and here is a sneak peek of Chef Tom-Kee’s swine-enticing menu:
Slow roasted pork loin sandwich on ciabatta bun
Smoked pork belly
Roasted swiss chard
Pickled radish
Caramelized onion aioli
The weather is going to be beautiful! Tickets are $55 for adults and $15 for children; you can pick up tickets directly from the 124th street Grand Market tonight from 4 – 8 p.m. or if you want to buy tickets online through eventbrite click here.
